BRAKE SYSTEM
BRAKES:
It is a very important
unit in any vehicle. Used to stop a moving vehicle.
The brake can be applied
by the following systems:
1. Mechanical Brake System:
This type of brake
consists of pure mechanical parts which operate by a mechanism to stop the
tyres from further motion.
E.g. Like in bicycle
brake shoe operates when the wire connected to the brake shoe, is pulled by
applying the brakes. Thus, the bicycle stops.
2.Hydraulic Brake System:
As the name suggests a fluid is used in a mechanism to apply brakes.
How does it work?
- When the brake pedal is pushed, the piston moves inside the master cylinder through a pushrod.
- Due to the force, the piston pushes the fluid (oil) through the brake pipe(cable) which enters the slave cylinder. The slave cylinder also has pistons which push the brake shoes.
- Friction acts between the brake drum and Brake Shoes (consists of brake pads or brake lining). This makes the vehicle stop.
- Majorly two master cylinder are used one for front wheels and one for rear wheels.
- The fluid used is called Brake fluid.
- Springs are used in the brake pedal and slave cylinders for the brake to come to its original position when brakes are not applied.
Important Points For Brake System:
1.Brake lines design
2.Pedal assembly
3.Bleeding of brakes
4.Analysis of dynamic brake test
5.Analysis of static brake test
